Route 66 Activation Strategies

Placemaking / Planning

Strata Design performed an extensive analysis of the issues and opportunities of the remaining cultural assets along the longest intact urban stretch of Route 66 which is Central Avenue in Albuquerque. We worked with community stakeholder groups to further understand cultural interests and generational nostalgia of the Mother Road and generate an action plan for redevelopment which builds upon the historic capital of Route 66. Strategies included the adaptive re-use of orphan motel signage, creating public spaces incorporating historic structures and creating marketing and branding which provides visual cohesion along the corridor.
